As per the India Employment Report published by the International Labour Organization in 2024 structural unemployment had almost doubled to 65.7% amongst the youth in the past two decades. With 1/4th of the Indian population making less INR 66,000 per annum makes India one of the largest global economies with the lowest per capita income which results in lower consumption than potential for the entire economy.
This has led to the creation of the largest pool of educated poor in the world in India.
